Matucana is a Peruvian genus of South American cacti. They are easy to grow and many will produce their exotic flowers in cultivation while still young. Most species will remain small for many years, so a representative collection can be housed in a small glasshouse or conservatory.

This book explains how to grow them and includes details from the original descriptions of all the validly-described species, translated into English where necessary. There is also a comprehensive set of pictures taken in habitat and cultivation. The history and taxonomic standing of each recognized species is discussed, helping readers to decide the correct names to use for plants in their collections.

Matucana species are diverse both in appearance as well as where they grow naturally. The various types of habitats are described and illustrated. The species that were previously in the genus Oroya can be seen in their spectacular high altitude habitats, quite unlike the usual concept of where cacti grow.
