Taxonomy of the Cactaceae is likely to be the most complete non-digital work on the cactus family ever produced. The author
has put forth tremendous effort towards recognizing all species/infraspecies with the same level of detail. All previous works which
are inclusive of the entire family are lacking in detail for many of the species. This is especially true of images. No other book
has ever included at least one image of every listing. Additionally, the author strived to represent as many species as possible with
habitat, cultivation, and even seed images.
There is an interesting section of the book which illustrates and honors the eponymos - those people who have cacti named after them.
The total work comprises 6 books. The first two volumes cover the various genera while vols 3-6 break down each species and infraspecies. The first
two volumes are out of print, but PDF versions are supplied to those who purchase vols 3-6.
In regards to the taxonomy of this work, there will certainly be disagreement - that is the nature of taxonomy! The
method used in Taxonomy of the Cactaceae was largely based on molecular genetics (DNA) and is explained.
The species accounts are listed in an encyclopedia-like format with the illustrations following after. Each species account
