The subject of this book - cacti from Patagonia - is one that most cactus and succulent seem to unintentionally overlook. Perhaps this is because no authors have ever focused on them specifically. At least until now.

In this well illustrated book, the authors give an introduction to the region, then a species-by-species account of the following genera:

• Maihuenia
• Maihueniopsis
• Pterocactus
• Austrocactus
• Gymnocalycium

Thus some of the cactus species that have a minor occurrence in the area are not included, but the focus is on those with exclusive or primary distribution of the region.

Of the 89 photos, nearly all are in habitat, except for the end of the book which is a discussion on propagation and cultivation of these plants.
